Working together for a safer, cleaner and more connected South Ambergris Caye

Our Mission:

To deter crime, promote community spirit, and create an environment that encourages awareness and continual improvement within our area.

Who we are:

The South Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch (SACNW) is a not-for-profit organization led by volunteers and supported entirely by donations from residents, businesses, and friends of the island. We serve the southern 3+ miles of Ambergris Caye, Belize — from Victoria House to the southern tip, from sea to lagoon.

Our focus is safety, community, and care for the neighborhood we all love. Every dollar we raise goes directly toward operations, primarily funding our team of dedicated Patrol Officers who protect and serve 24/7.

We meet every second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM at Someplace South CafeBar —

and everyone is welcome!

2025 Officers and Executive Committee:

  • President: Al Domescik

  • Vice Presidents: Karyn Larko & Martin Reiser

  • Treasurer: Mary Shaw

  • Secretary: Judyann Horton

  • At Large Members: Kate Corrigan & Dennis Sheehan

  • Social Media Assistant: Cindy Patulea

What we do and how we do it:

Our goal is simple: make South Ambergris Caye safe and welcoming for everyone — full-time residents, part-timers, and visitors alike.

24/7 Patrol Coverage: you can always reach a Patrol Officer at 610-4911

We employ up to five trained Patrol Officers (POs) who patrol by foot, bike, and golf cart around the clock. Their presence helps deter crime, assist in emergencies, and offer peace of mind throughout the area. POs are often the first on the scene when something happens — and they immediately coordinate with the San Pedro Police Department (SPPD) for criminal matters.

All of our Patrol Officers are regularly trained in first aid and emergency response, including the use of our AED and oxygen equipment at the SACNW Patrol Station - located between Miramar Villas and Serenity Shores.

What Patrol Officers Do:

  • Deter crime through presence and engagement.

  • Respond to incidents and emergencies.

  • Assist the SPPD as needed.

  • Assist with traffic safety and assist SPPD or Traffic Officers in conducting traffic checkpoints.

  • Help stranded vehicles or provide escorts for residents feeling unsafe.

  • Provide first aid and medical response while awaiting medical professionals.

Beautification & Clean-Up:

We also take pride in the appearance and upkeep of our community. We organize community clean-up campaigns, with incredible results — our first clean-up yielded over 200 bags of trash with the help of dedicated volunteers and our very own San Pedro Town Council.

Our Commitment:

SACNW promotes civic pride, mutual respect, and a deep love for our community. We believe in sustainable, community-led action that improves safety, cleanliness, and quality of life.

None of this would be possible without your support. Whether you live here full-time, part-time, or visit often — your donation or involvement helps us do what we do.
